When it comes to taking supplements, there are a lot of questions as to when you should begin taking them and which ones are better than others. I think you have to start by breaking down the nutritional supplements into categories. In this video, I categorize multivitamins, specialty vitamins, protein powders, pre workouts, creatine, BCAA’s, creatine, omega-3’s and joint recovery formulas. Each group is discussed in relation to one of four age brackets regarding their appropriateness.
All of the supplements discussed are ones that I take myself and would recommend to others. You will not see any testosterone boosters or pro hormones because I don’t believe in them or recommend them to my viewers. Even the pre workout supplements must undergo severe scrutiny based on the dangers that have been shown to riddle that product category for the past couple of years.
All that said however, I make it very clear that any supplementation plan must start with a commitment to good nutrition. If you think that you are going to make up for a bad diet by taking supplements you are flat out fooling yourself, and likely wasting a lot of money. Supplements are meant to supplement a good nutrition plan. When you have a dedication to eating well, not perfect, but well…supplements can be a savior and a huge difference maker as they really help with the consistency needed to see great results.
Some manufacturers want you to believe that their supplement will help you overcome poor nutrition. They will make you think that you can simply sleep your way to a six pack. It’s laughable and dishonest to say the least. The hard truth of the matter is that high quality nutrition is a must if you want to really see the fastest and best results possible.
That said, ATHLEAN-X is committed to both proper nutrition and high quality, safe supplements. Through our X-Factor meal plan, available in the ATHLEAN-X Training System, and the Rx supplements we provide our program followers with all the tools needed to make a big difference in how they look in just 90 days. If you want to get either or both, you can head to http://athleanx.com and start eating and training like an athlete.

Can you do a video about Protein Shake Recipes? Everyone just says take your shakes but they never talk about what they put in it. But they always say nutrition is the most important thing. You can't just drink milk and whey. That's disgusting. Obviously some kind of Milk or Almond Milk plus 1 scoop of Whey or Protein powder. But that tastes disgusting and you have to add other things to make it taste like something you can swallow. I don't want to sabotage my health or gainz with the other things I'm adding to the shake. If I'm supposed to drink it twice a day on weightlifting days then the ingredients make up a large portion of my nutrition and they're important. I've found that 1 cup milk 1 scoop powder 1 banana and ice makes an acceptable tasting shake. Things to make it taste even better are: peanut butter, blueberries, another banana. But I don't know if that's too much fruit to eat twice a day. I heard peanut butter protein breaks down slowly so it's good to eat it at the end of the day or before bed. Also what kind of milks to avoid?

For me it's Optimum nutrition hydro whey, ON creatine, Opti men multivitamin and Nature's bounty fish oil. I drink green tea every morning as my preworkout, only one cup, this way I can increase to 2 or 3 cups per day when I get into harder training segments and still be below my caffeine limit.

Example: you've eaten 130g of protein today from milk/eggs/vegetables/meat, but you want to consume 160g per day (or some number that suits you). So eat 30g of protein from supplements. If you've eaten >160g, don't eat protein from supplements, it wouldn't help.

November 29th, 2018 at 6:35 am
'Supplements only makes 1%', few minutes later 'maybe creatine will make you get 9 or 10 reps instead of 8', well sir, that's over 10%

Hi Jeff! I love your channel…. Been listening to your advice for awhile now, and have a question. I'm 42 now and do feel like my testosterone has gone down. Do you know with proper exercise, nutrition and supplementation, will it increase?
November 29th, 2018 at 2:00 pm
Can anybody tell me is it good to take whey protein daily in the age 15-16?
November 29th, 2018 at 2:08 pm
So which pre-work out would you recomend me, im 40years & weight 180, 5"5
November 29th, 2018 at 2:08 pm
I think what works better is getting started with firsts, so yeah: fix your nutrition habits, GOT TO THE GYM and then once you've established those habits as the norm in your life, then you can start considering enhancing things like powders and sups.
November 29th, 2018 at 2:14 pm

Just wanted to put out there – I know nothing about non-prescription testosterone supplements, but if you have low testosterone (as diagnosed by multiple blood tests by a medical professional), then testosterone replacement therapy is amazing. I've lost a lot of fat %, gained a fair amount of muscle, and have more energy to work out more often since I started it. Been on it for probably 4-5 months and the difference is night and day.
Kind of a shame to have to start it as a guy in my 30's, since artificial T lowers your body's ability to generate it – but it just goes to show that the stereotype of only old men having low T is not 100% accurate. I'd encourage any man to get it checked – even if it's fine now, you'll have a baseline to know if it drops too much. later in life. Brain fog, low muscle gain, anxiety and mood swings- these can be caused by a lot of things, but for me it was the low levels keeping me down.
