So basically people are mad because you're being reasonable and logical? 💁

Swayze, I currently avoid palm oil but realise that all other crops require land, water, resources etc to be grown as well. What is the difference with palm oil?

Maybe check out safety razors. No plasticy bits that end up in landfills and the replacement razors are super cheap. It takes some adjusting but it's not nearly as difficult as something like a safety razor.

I can't listen to Unnatural Vegan anymore with hearing Footsoilder's protein remix.

I am not vegan.. yet. I watch your videos because I like YOU. You appeal to non-vegans because you are very knowledgeable and produce interesting, thought provoking content.

Could you do a video on vegan substitutes for everyday food? Like what you use in place of dairy in certain recipes! Thanks!!

You're one of the biggest reasons why I want to reduce my animal product intake and eventually going vegan.

I love spiders. Spider season seems to have ended here in the UK… but I still have quite a few living with me. You can buy/make spider-cathchers. I made one for my sister when I was a child. She's not as much of a fan.

You make me WANT to struggle to be vegan because of your sensible, facts-based approach. Like I said I was vegetarian for 17 years (when it wasn't cool or trendy), vegan off and on and I have major digestive and joint issues right now, but I still make as many vegan choices as I can, use as many cruelty-free products as possible (yay CA for banning the sale of animal tested products) I HATE eating animal products and do so at a bare minimum, so THANK YOU for you educational videos and encouraging those who are struggling AND respecting the needs and/or choices of other people.

I'm a 16 year old guy and was vegan for 2 years. A month ago I started eating fish again. Boy has it helped my health. Does anyone know about the health effects of fish (that's not about the salmon-mercury situation)?
November 18th, 2018 at 4:24 am
Are you anti-Soylent? 😉 I'd love to see a science based take on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFk6ljFDDxM

Been vegan for 11 years, our children since birth, or are we since we vaccinate.
I don’t care about a community or vegan friends either. We aren’t vegan for those reasons. We believe in true real science and that’s what we follow. So if vaccinating our children makes us not vegan because a community says so… don’t care.
I don’t agree with all your content, but I think you ate a great addition and bring balance to this crazy vegan YouTube community.

Hello. I've been following your channel for a while and I do like how you approach things. I've decided to go vegan a month and a half ago and the information on your channel has helped me.
However, I have a huge concern that is driving me crazy. And that is oxalates which can lead to kidney stones at the minimum but could also form crystals in other parts of the body which is far worse. I read that this has been a hot topic for the last few years and now oxalates are deemed as enemies/killers. I've tried to do some research but the information I find is conflicting and confusing (some say not to worry, others are on the exact opposite opinion) I've even seen videos of ex-vegans who claim vegetables and oxalates destroyed their health.
I've looked up oxalate rich foods and I was shocked – berries, beans, legumes, nuts and seeds, most leafy greens, potatos, quinoa etc. All of these I eat daily. Not only that I eat them daily but they account for over 95% of my calorie intake. Reading all that scary information about oxalates terrifies me and I'm afraid I will destroy my healthy even more.
Is it possible to hear your take on all of this?
Thanks

The main reason I still strive towards veganism is Swayse's encouragement and hard science approach. It is hard enough when I'm in the UK (I love the taste of fish, it's the thing I am struggling to give up) but it is so much harder in Egypt (where you say no meat and people give you chicken). I have so little time to cook, so many other food issues, and access to vegan food that I can eat is very limited. I would have given up entirely without Swayze's more moderate and helpful approach. As a scientist I really appreciate that she calls out people pedalling potentially damaging pseudoscience. When I was much younger and more naive I fell for some of this stuff just like she did and there was nobody at the time to haul me out of those pseudoscience spirals. I had to haul myself out as I gained understanding of the scientific method and questioned the research methods and validity for myself. I wish she had been around then so I had wasted less time on that tosh. Aside from any of that, I really appreciate that Swayze does not just appeal to the echo chamber that exists within much of the vegan community. If we are to go any way to addressing the human created problems in this world we need to step outside the echo chamber of our own ideas. After all, whilst support is important in maintaining any lifestyle, what is necessary is a change in lifestyle from others and that means engaging outside the echo chamber. Thank you Swayze from one mostly vegan reducitarian expat with health issues in a difficult country. I appreciate you and your support and engagement beyond the echo chamber.

Thanks for the video. It's interesting to hear some of your stuff.
Some people are ultra-loyalists which is over-the-top support of anyone vegan no matter how absurd or dangerous their vegan plan or their ideas happen to be. Those are the type of people that claim you can't be vegan because of it. They are a minority. It's not a big number of people. They are a more vocal minority that gives veganism a bad name imho. No one's gonna please everybody.

This was a really good video, thanks Saffron! If you want to be Vegan, you will be no matter about the time or not. A lot of people like me become Vegan because they disagree about the indescribable cruelty on animals that goes on in the industry that produces food. The milk and egg industry are actually some of the cruellest, calves been pulled from their mothers and baby males slaughtered less than a day old and chicks being ground up because they were produced instead of consumable eggs. I am not writing this to be mean but I think people should be more aware of what we are eating. We all have it so easy here today, our food is produced and packaged for us so we don't really have to do anything or have to have any involvement in its production and it is seen to us as something completely different from what it is. It is important to be aware of your body, what you are putting into it and where it comes from. 🙂 Being vegan is hard sometimes but anything you can do to help not support these businesses that is a good thing and spreading awareness. 🙂 Thanks again for the video. By the way, it doesn't take that much more time! 🙂
